DIESEL ENGINE DRIVEN FIRE PUMPS:
Diesel Fire Pumps: All pumps shall be diesel driven pumps unless
the installation can comply with Chapter 6 of NFPA 20 (1990 edition).
Pump rotation for diesel engine driven fire
Fire Pump Rotation:
pump shall be clockwise.
FIRE PUMP DESIGN:
Pump Installation: All pump installations shall include a flow
meter in addition to a test header. The flow meter shall not discharge into
the suction feed main supplying the fire pump. An approved butterfly valve
shall be installed downstream of the flow meter.
Separate Bypass: All fire pumps taking suction from street mains
shall be equipped with a separate bypass.
Isometric Piping Details: All contract drawings shall contain an
isometric piping details of each fire pump installation.
Remote Alarms: All pump installations shall have remote alarms in
a constantly occupied location.
Relief and Flow Test Piping: Fire pumps supplied from a suction
tank shall have pressure relief and flow test discharge outlets piped back to
the top of the suction tank away from the suction vortex plate.
FIRE PUMP CONTROLLERS:
Primary Resistors: Primary resistors on electric fire pump
controllers shall be enclosed in a cabinet separate from the rest of the
controller components. All electric fire pump controllers shall be primary
resistor type reduced voltage starting controllers.
Pressure Sensing Lines: Each pump controller shall have
individual pressure sensing lines taken from the system side of the pump.
SALT HATER FIRE PUMPS: All salt water fire pumps shall have
special metallurgy or coating systems in accordance with manufacturer's
