e) THE MINIMUM SIZE FREEHAND LETTERING, WHICH INCLUDES ALL ALPHA-
NUMERIC SYMBOLS USED ON THE DRAWINGS, SHALL BE NOT LESS THAN 5/32" HIGH UPPER
CASE AND PREFERABLY VERTICAL. THE MINIMUM SIZE MECHANICAL OR COMPUTER
GRAPHICS LETTERING SHALL BE NOT LESS THAN 1/8" HIGH. THE MINIMUM GAP BETWEEN
LINES SHALL BE EQUAL TO ONE-HALF THE LETTER HEIGHT.
f) SYMBOLS SHALL BE LARGE ENOUGH TO REPRODUCE LEGIBLY WHEN REDUCED.
SYMBOLS FOR PROJECT FEATURES SHALL CONFORM TO CURRENT INDUSTRY STANDARDS.
CIRCLES USED TO IDENTIFY SECTIONS, ELEVATIONS AND DETAILS SHALL BE AT LEAST
5/8" IN DIAMETER. (SEE MIL-HDBK 1006/1 AND THE SAMPLE TITLE BLOCK/DRAWING
SHEET PROVIDED AT THE SPECIFICATIONS BRIEFING FOR EXAMPLES.)
g) DO NOT OVERCROWD DRAWINGS. NUMEROUS LINES AND SYMBOLS WHICH ARE
CLOSELY SPACED ON FULL-SIZE DRAWINGS REPRODUCE AS A BLACK, SMUDGED LINE OR
AREA ON REDUCED SIZE PRINTS.
h) KEEP MYLARS CLEAN.
DIRTY AND SMUDGED MYLARS RESULT IN DECREASED
LEGIBILITY WHEN REPRODUCED.
Media and Size
Drawings are to be made on erasable pre-printed plastic (mylar) sheets.
Unless otherwise agreed to by the government at fee negotiations, sheets shall
be "D" size (22" x 34"). Sheets are to be furnished by the A/E. "Original"
drawings submitted by the A/E at the Bidding Document Submission shall be
either hand-drafted or computer-aided original mylars or photographic
reproductions using washoff image mylar, of 3-4 mil thickness, with images on
the fronts of the sheets only. All notations and drafting shall be on the
fronts of the sheets only.
Drafting Conventions, Abbreviations, Symbols, Etc.
Drafting conventions, abbreviations, symbols, lettering, dimensioning and
drawing notes shall conform to the requirements of MIL-HDBK 1006/1.
A sample of the NORTHDIV drawing title block will be provided to the A/E upon
commencement of the design (usually at the Specifications Briefing). The firm
name shown in the title block shall be that of the prime A/E (i.e., the firm
having the contract with NORTHDIV). Consultants SHALL NOT place supplemental
title blocks on the mylars and the names of consultants to the prime A/E SHALL
NOT be placed on the drawings. The prime A/E is the only one entitled to have
his name appear in the title block or on the mylars. The A/E shall place the
project title, activity name and location, and appropriate drawing title in
each title block of each sheet. The project title shall appear on one line in
the appropriate block and shall exactly match the project title presented on
the cover sheet, on other sheets and in the specifications. Do not use
abbreviated project titles. In addition, the A/E shall fill in the
appropriate scale, specification number, construction contract number, sheet
number (eg., 1 of 30, 2 of 30, etc.) and discipline sheet number (eg., C-1, C-
2, A-1, A-2, etc. - see below for design discipline designations) in the
appropriate spaces of the title block on each sheet. Other instructions
regarding preparation of the title block are specified herein or will be
provided by the government at the Specifications Briefing.
All letter-size sketches of designs, sections and details appearing in the
NFGSs shall be transferred (drawn by the A/E) to the project drawings. Except
for certain charts and graphs indicated in the NFGSs, detail sketches shall
