Install control joints in walls where two dissimilar types of construction

clear polyvinyl fluoride (PVF) for high abuse areas.
If wood paneling is to be used, specify shop-applied plastic-protected
varieties.  Normally limit Wainscots to 36 inch height.
Consider use of natural surfaces, such as stone or brick, that may eliminate
maintenance requirements in hard use areas.
Consider using epoxy-resin coatings for a smooth, durable surface in high use
Avoid flat paints along corridors and stairwells.
