5.2.20 Railroad Trackage: Comply with all current safety precautions. Refer to
NAVFAC MO-103 for additional information. This guide is not intended to be a com-
plete inspection procedure. Inspectors should refer to NAVFACINST 11230.1(Series)
for more complete inspection guidance. Check for:
n  Tracks: Examine closely where track passes from earth fill to bridges or
trestles. (Standard gage is 4' 8-1/2" which is increased on sharp curves.
Maximum gage is 4' 9-3/4" and minimum gage is 4' 8":
Vertical and horizontal misalignment caused by heaving
sinking
churning
inadequate expansion
particularly during hot weather
rough spots (ask train crews)
