1.4 Submittal Status Log.  (Sample form attached.) A-Es shall
Complete items (a) through (e) of the form and also item (1).
"Remarks" column, i n d i c a t i n g critical and long lead time items.
1 . 5 Testing Plan.  (Sample form attached.) A-Es shall complete
items; Specification Sections and Paragraph: Item of Work; and Tests
Required.
2.  GENERAL GUIDANCE:  S i n c e it is not practical to cover all
i t e m s of construction in the Guide Specifications. sound
professional judgment must be exercised to provide quality controls
necessary to reasonably assure design integrity and quality
c o n s t r u c t i o n .  Do not require "samples" for approval, when
" m a n u f a c t u r e r ' s data" will suffice.  When specified that an item be
i n s t a l l e d in accordance with the manufacturer's printed instructions
and details. r e q u i r e that such printed instructions and details be
submitted for approval.  Shop drawings are sometimes required for
f a b r i c a t i o n or installation of an item which is considered critical
or complex or which has not been detailed, or because the Contractor
has the option of choosing two or more alternatives to accomplish
t h e specific function: in these cases, approval by the designer is
required.  A p p r o v a l of certifications and certified test reports for
most materials should be ROICC or Contractor's Quality Control
R e p r e s e n t a t i v e responsibility.
3.  APPROVAL RESPONSIBILITY:
The following is provided as general
guidance :
a.  A/E Review and Recommendation of Approval:  S i g n i f i c a n t
functional and structural elements and aspects of the design and
t h o s e architectural features, materials and finishes which
c o n t r i b u t e prominently to the aesthetics of a structure, both
i n t e r i o r and exterior, a r e considered essential to design integrity
and must be recommended for approval by the designers.  Some
examples are:
A r c h i t e c t u r a l concrete panels
(1)
S t r u c t u r a l steel and-concrete design
(2)
Concrete and asphaltiC concrete mix designs, as
(3)
a p p r o p r i a t e (see "b." below)
S p e c i a l interior and exterior finishes, paints and
(4)
p r o t e c t i v e coatings.  ( C o l o r / d e s i g n selection should be
by the customer)
Foundation Piling
(5)
Finish Hardware (except keying system)
(6)
Plumbing and mechanical equipment
(7)
Electrical equipment and temperature controls.
