WATER & WASTEWATER SYSTEMS
Y.
Plumbing:
Use a color-coding system for piping in accordance with AFR 88-15, Attachment
4.
Provide adequate space for working on plumbing and piping.
Consider installing access panels under sinks.
Locate piping so it does not obstruct openings.
If floor drains are used, be sure they are adequately sized.
Use plugged tees rather than elbows to provide cleanout points.
Provide enough valving so systems can be closed down in sections.  In
dormitories and transient quarters, valving should allow shut down of
individual fixtures or rooms.  Individual showers in gang shower rooms should
have isolation valves.
Standardize valves.
Use pipe unions at each valve for ready removal.
Use chains or extension handles to control overhead valves from floor level.
In lavatories, valve each hot and cold riser.
In cold-weather areas, protect outside faucets and bibbs, use frostfree type
or have valve inside.  Ensure water lines in walls and ceiling are insulated
or placed inside building insulation.
Do not use galvanized steel pipe for domestic hot and cold water systems.
Use either copper or CPVC/PVC pipe.
Protection of metal piping.  Design to accommodate thermal expansion/
contraction, vibration and shock.
Do not use solders and flux that contain more than 0.2 percent lead and pipe
and pipe fittings that contain more than 8.0 percent lead.  Wipe flux from
brazed joints when cool.
Z.
Fixtures:
Standardize fixtures.
Protect fixtures by locating them in recessed areas or by using curbs and
rails.
