 place. High value assets such as mission critical, high profile facilities or facilities close to the
ECF with a high concentration of personnel should be considered at higher risk. If an
adequate safety zone or standoff distance cannot be achieved to produce acceptable
damage and injury levels, other alternatives must be evaluated or a decision made to accept
additional risk (3).
Another consideration in the development of the safety zone is any exclusion zones, which may
be required to minimize radiation exposure from x-ray, gamma ray, or similar inspection
equipment. See Chapter 7 for further information on these considerations.
